THE PROBLEM
The preservation status of the paintings is mainly related to the general degradation of the Cloister with infiltration problems related to the roofs and the angular descendants which are almost inefficient, causing plasters and the vaults impregnation.
The general state of neglect, which lasts a long time, is the main cause of the progressive detachment caused by the falling or powdering of the painting film, process that – over wide areas – finished with the definitive loss of the decoration.
THE METHOD
Our intervention was extended to four bays and was particularly focused on the conservative perspective and, as a consequence, on the strenghtening and compensation of the adhesion of the painting film, in order to stop detachment and falling processes. At the end of this phase we have implemented the surfaces’ cleaning by alterations and repainting, to finally proceed with the pictorial re-integration.
