THE PROBLEM
As per a request of the Museum Management it has been undertaken a re-organization of work, cleaning and cataloging of sixty boxes full of wall paintings fragments and stucco frames which were in the stores of the museum and had been poorly examinated or studied and barely inventoried. The intervention aim was not only the preservation of the material, but also to arrange an exhibition dedicated to that clectic collector who was Evan Gorga.
THE METHOD
The fragments were all examined and grouped by stylistic and/or chromatic analogies in order to identify the belonging to other decorative sets and groped at least partial reconstruction of some people so that they could be the object of stylistic comparisons and studies that suggested also hypotheses about the origin of the fragments themselves. There have been reconstructed some panels or part of them and juxtaposed different elements belonging to the wall itself in order to offer a reconstructive hypothesis. All the pieces selected for the exhibition have been cleaned, consolidated when possible, reassembled and re-integrated.
